Trunk or Treat event set Friday at Kerr County Animal Control

Large orange and purple lettering reads “TRUNK OR TREAT,” with “FREE FAMILY FUN!” displayed below on a yellow dog-bone-shaped banner. To the right, two smiling young children, a girl dressed as a witch and a boy dressed as a cowboy, stand with a golden retriever wearing a pumpkin costume. The boy holds the dog's leash, and both children carry orange jack-o'-lantern candy buckets. The festive background features pumpkins, bats, autumn decorations and a vehicle with its trunk open and decorated for Halloween.
In a theme of orange and purple hues, a Kerr County Animal Control Trunk or Treat event promo promises Free Family Fun and depicts a young girl dressed as a witch, a little boy dressed as a cowboy and a yellow Labrador dressed in a pumpkin costume.

Costume contests for kids and pets, mini games, yard games and plenty of treats are offered completely free of charge in a safe environment this Friday evening, Oct. 30, during the Kerr County Animal Control’s first-ever Trunk or Treat event.

This family-friendly event will run from 6-8 p.m. at the new KCAC facility, located at 199 Spur 100 in Kerrville. Pets are invited, so long as they are leashed and not aggressive.

“We think this is a great way to welcome the community to our new facility, and can’t wait to gather our families and pets together for some Halloween fun,” said KCAC Director Reagan Givens. “Please join us and help make this event a success!”

The Kids’ Costume Contest at the Shelter will start at 7 p.m. Prize buckets filled with goodies will be presented to the winners in the following categories: Best Animal-Themed, Best Princess, Best Superhero, Most Creative, Scariest and Silliest Costumes.

Right after that is finished on Friday evening, the KCAC Dog Costume Contest will be held. Dress up your family pup and join in the spook-tacular fun. Categories will include: Funniest Pet, Best Pawstume, Scary Good Style, Top Pet of Halloween, Most Adorable and People’s Choice. All dogs must be on a leash or in a carrier. Winners will be announced by 8 p.m. and prizes will be awarded.

When they arrive, each attendee will be provided with free tickets they can then use to vote on their favorite trunk at the event.

For cats, an online costume contest is being conducted through Thursday, Oct. 29. Everyone is asked to post a photo of their cat dressed up for the occasion on the KCAC Facebook page. The post with the most likes at 5 p.m. on Thursday will be the winner and receive a “furr-tastic basket” of treats donated by the AWS Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter and Clinic. For the rules to the contest, please see the KCAC Facebook page.

There will be free popcorn and candy provided to the little trick or treaters, while vendors on site will include Crumbl Cookie and Papi’s Shaved Ice.

Parking areas will be in the front and guests will walk through the fun event in the back of the facility so that traffic is kept away from those on foot.
