Most Kerr County offices closing for Labor Day holiday

 In observance of the federal holiday for Labor Day, most Kerr County, Texas, offices will be closing their doors on Monday, Sept. 7.

The one-day closing will not impact any emergency services, such as law enforcement, fire or EMS. However, it will mean that most regular county departments will be closed, including those that had to be relocated to the Hill Country Youth Event Center, the Allie Burton Annex, the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex and any other alternate sites following the flood damage that forced the courthouse to be closed to the public.

Business hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8. To learn normal operating hours for a specific department, please refer to that department’s individual webpage found under the “Departments” menu on the county website: www.kerrcountytx.gov.

Labor Day

Labor Day celebrates and recognizes the American labor movement, as well as the works and contributions made by laborers to the development and achievement of the United States.

The first Labor Day holiday was observed on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. In 1894, Congress passed a bill recognizing the first Monday of September as Labor Day and made it a holiday for federal workers. All U.S. states and territories now observe it as a statutory holiday.

After Labor Day, the next holiday to be observed by the local county government will be Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 12.
